Giving Away Gaza
Sharon has committed a huge blunder. Giving in to the terrorist’s demands is wrong.
While there are a million Arabs and only eight thousand Jews in Gaza, many if not most of the Arabs don't want the Jews to leave either.
Many of the Arabs are Christian. They will be slaughtered immediately.
Sharon's idea is to be able to bomb a territory if need be, but he forgets that not all of Gaza will be terrorists. At least not until all of the ethnic cleansing is completed.
On the Jewish Calander the "9th day of Av" is when this pullout has gotten under way. What a fitting time for this to happen. This infamous day is a day of calamity that has been a bad day for Jews since the first century. Reference here.

I still cant understand what he thinks will be accomplished. Other then having the bad guys even closer to you.
Pappy,
Michael Medved sides with Sharon so I think there is honest debate on this one.
He thinks that it makes it easier to defend the 8,000 when they are not in the midst of 1.5 million Arabs.
FAR.
It's called economics. It's about making the Israeli economy somewhat efficient (it's already a giant welfare state to begin with) by ending the subsidy that pisses money down the toilet on soldiers who guard 8,000 settlers among 1,000,000 Palestinians.
Having those people move makes the most sense. It's a more effective use of the state's resources.
And, Gaza is not a gift. It is one of the biggest pieces of shit land in the world.

Well then you agree with Michael Medved. Can't say I blame you because I can see that side as well.
I just think that if the other side, i.e., the Palestinians claim victory and it is what they wanted, then maybe it is a bad idea to move them. Not to mention several Jews that have expressed their opposition to the move that I found very moving and very logical as well. The logical part is usually what sells me. :)
FAR.
I have no idea who Michael Melved it, but there are many Jews who support the move as well who are logical people.
In any event, everyone is so hung up on who might interpret the pullout as what. So what if Palestinians regard it as a victory? Let them have it. Israel still calls the shots.
What happened to humanity in the discussion? How about pulling out because it makes sense for both groups of people?
ii,
"What happened to humanity in the discussion?"
The government is not providing them a home. Many of these people are going from having a home that they worked all their lives to provide, to being homeless.
How is that being humane?
FAR.
Most of those settlements are government subsidized housing. No one slaved for those homes. Remember - Israel is a big welfare state. Many of those religious nuts that live there don't work. The ultra-orthodox don't even consider the country a legitimate Israel since the messiah didn't create it. They refuse to serve in the Israeli army and demand hand-outs so they can forego working in favor of reading the Torah all day.
Also, what about all the Palestinians who lost their homes?
